Putting a Thai spin on the ultra-popular "crack slaw" recipe makes this low carb stir-fry recipe even more addictive. In this version, we add spicy red curry and fresh cilantro to elevate the taste and add flavor complexity. Addictive taste aside, this dish comes together in no time!

Making low carb simple

Instructions

  1. Fry the cabbage in half of the butter in a large frying pan or wok on medium-high heat until softened, about 5-6 minutes.

  2. Season with salt, pepper, and turmeric. Add the vinegar. Sauté until fragrant. Place the cabbage in a bowl and reserve.

  3. Melt the rest of the butter in the same pan. Add garlic, ginger, onion, and red curry paste and fry for 1 minute. Add the ground meat, stirring and breaking apart, until the meat is cooked through, for about 5 minutes.

  4. Reduce the heat to medium-low, and add the cabbage to the pan. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add more red curry paste if needed.

  5. For serving, garnish with cilantro.

Tips

To turn this into a lovely creamy curry, add 1/4 can of coconut cream per serving, in step 4.

To increase the protein, you could also serve this dish with a fried egg on top.

You can use ground turkey in place of pork if you prefer.

Feel free to use napa cabbage or white cabbage in place of green cabbage.

I love cabbage but I am finding all of the various 'crack slaw' recipes very bland and not worth the work in putting them together. I wonder if I am missing something...

This is a great basic recipe. It appears that there are several in this comment thread who are accomplished in the kitchen and have a flair for spices. Thank you for these great comments. I will make this again and be more adventurous with the spices. I've had crack slaw several different ways, they were all really good. Adding this one to my favorites list on this site. I'll be sure to read the thread next time for more ideas on variations.

A definite fat for me. I used chicken instead and LOVED it!!! It was a mild curry taste, but that's the way I like it. I also put it on a bed of raw baby spinach cause I was hungry but still came out just under 12 carbs. This is gonna be on the weekly menu for me for sure.

Most of my childhood memory includes getting yelled at by my mother, punampaul.com and eat your veggies; but I used to pay no heed to it. However as time passes, most of us come around to eating vegetables as we are aware of the countless benefits they have for our health.

Cabbage is especially one of the world's most nutrient dense vegetables readily available for us to enjoy, rich in essential vitamins such as C, B6, K, saturated fat, thiammin, calcium, iron, magnesium phosphorus and a good source of dietary fibers.

But I never liked any cabbage recipe other than in noodles.

This cabbage recipe when I tried at home was not really appreciated by my family but it was really yummy too. Thanks for sharing this delicious preparation. Keep posting wonderful recipes like this.

Try a natural breakfast sausage (I use Jimmy Dean Natural). It really makes the cabbage slaws flavorful! Enjoy!

I often smile when I see some people comment about how the recipe didn't work or didn't taste right. Recipes are a guide. They aren't set in stone...(except my Mum's Anzac biscuit recipe) no-one changes that

My husband and I loved it. I put my husband's portion in an oven bowl, topped it with an egg and some shredded cheese and put it in the oven for a few minutes. I fried my egg and put it on top of my portion and then in the oven with some cheese grated on top. DELISH!!

My friend put me onto this with a little hint....add a can of coconut cream at the end. That makes it next level.
Great addition Chris, thank you. This will be a regular for us too.

I used yellow curry paste instead of red, and added garam masala, tumeric, paprika as well. That way it was DELISH and more Indian.

Absolutely delicious. I used coconut oil for the Chinese cabbage and butter for the mince. Amoy Red Curry Paste was just right. So full of flavor it’s a keeper.
