Warren County grand jury hands up January indictments (2024)

FRONT ROYAL — An unlawful wounding incident involving sexual acts from January 2021 was among the indictments recently handed up by a Warren County grand jury.

Darrin Murphy, 53, of 526 Shenandoah Valley Drive, Front Royal, was indicted on the charge of unlawful wounding.

According to a criminal complaint, Murphy was in a car with a female on Jan. 19, 2021, and instructed her to pull onto a gravel road near his residence in Warren County. Murphy then threatened the woman until she performed a sex act on him before he performed a sex act on her as she told him to stop throughout the incident, the complaint states.

Murphy took the female into a room in his residence, forcing her to perform another sex act on him, the complaint continues. The female was able to stop him, left the room, and the incident was reported to law enforcement.

Murphy is due in court on Jan 31. He has been released from the Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail on $2,500 bond.

Several of the other indictments included drug offenses, with some of coming by way of direct indictments that offer little public information on the alleged circ*mstances leading up to the charges.

• Cyrus Fiel, 32, of 4572 Strasburg Road, was indicted on manufacturing/distribution as a third offense, possession of a gun while possessing methamphetamine and possession of a gun after being convicted of a nonviolent felony within a 10-year period.

According to a criminal complaint, members of the Northwest Virginia Regional Drug Task Force found on Feb. 21 about 13 grams of a clear crystal substance consistent with methamphetamine in five individual baggies. They also found a digital scale, money, two pistols, a shotgun and several other items, the complaint states.

Fiel was previously convicted in 2015 of two counts of distribution of cocaine and sentenced to five years in prison for each charge.

Fiel is due in court on March 14. He remains held at RSW Regional Jail without bond.

• Edward Leroy Croushorn Jr., 50, of 482 Browntown Road, Front Royal, was indicted on possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and possession with intent to manufacture, sell and distribute 28 grams or more of methamphetamine and possession of oxycodone.

According to a criminal complaint, a search of Croushorn’s residence revealed 40 grams of methamphetamine consistent with distribution.

A certificate analysis filed with the case stated a 15.86 gram bag and a 18.38-gram bag were both found to contain methamphetamine, and a “dosage unit” was found to contain oxycodone.

Croushorn is due in court on May 24 on the charges. He is due in court on June 1 to face two charges of alleged violations of probation as a result of possessing methamphetamine. He remains in custody at Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail.

• Aaron Keith Deavers, 40, of 828 Remount Road, Front Royal, was directly indicted on possession of fentanyl, possession of oxycodone, possession of methamphetamine and manufacturing, selling, giving or distributing 28 grams of methamphetamine. The incidents allegedly occurred on March 4.

He is due in court on April 11 on the charges. He is due in court on March 14 for two separate possession of methamphetamine charges. Deavers has been released from custody on his own recognizance.

• Joseph Cortez Brown, 29, of 403 Criser Road, Front Royal, was directly indicted on possession of cocaine, possession of phencyclidine, driving under the influence, refusing to take a blood test and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license. The incidents allegedly happened on April 24.

Brown was also indicted on possession of cocaine, possession of a firearm while possessing cocaine and possession of a firearm after being convicted of a violent felony. The alleged incidents happened on Jan. 9, 2021.

Brown is due in court on April 11 for all offenses. He has been released from custody on his own recognizance.

• Kimberly Kuser, 32, of 2336 Fairground Road, Front Royal, was indicted on charge of grand larceny not from a person.

According to a criminal complaint, Kuser had gone to a family member’s house while they were at work and was acting different when they came home. Jewelry, including an assortment of rings, necklaces and bracelets were stolen from a dresser. The items were estimated to be worth more than $5,000. The family members provided text messages from Kuser in which she admitted to taking at least three necklaces to sell.

Kuser is due in court on Jan. 20. She has been released from custody on $2,000 bond.
